Paris Poodles and Autism
In April of 1997 our son, Dalen, was born....
In September of 2001 we took our son to Sunny
Hill Health Centre for Children to be assessed for
his delayed speech and delayed social
development.
On intelligence testing, his test score ranked at
the 2nd percentile and was high in the mild range
of mental handicap. In adaptive functioning, his
score ranked below the 1st percentile.

The members of the Sunny Hill team all agreed he had a severe language disorder and delay.
Our son was diagnosed with Autism.
We embarked on an adventure we did not anticipate taking... The journey has been full of
sadness, extreme challenges and overwhelming joy. During this time we noticed that he liked
animals and would only tolerate the presence of people.
It was a time consuming, sad and overwhelming fight but so far so good!

Paris Poodles Therapy!
Since our son was very young and during some key
developmental stages we also had our Paris Poodles breeding
program.
Without knowing it we had immersed our son in a daily
therapeutic regime of dog therapy which has help mold him into
the man he is becoming.
Each day our son handles small puppies and walks the adults by
himself. He cares for the dogs, feeds them and gives them fresh
clean fleece blankets daily.
Currently he is training his own dog and we have noticed a
marked calming affect on him as when he is with his dog Apollo.
We hope to train him well enough to accompany our son
everywhere.
Because of the success we have had over the past 15 years
with our son and managing his autism- we felt an overwhelming
desire to assist other families.
Our breeding program has incorporated a new focus of
providing puppies with the potential to be Autism Assistance
Dogs.
We realize that there are local and international organizations
who are providing some fantastic therapy and assistance dogs
to children with Autism. (Google: Autism Assistance Dogs or
Autism Support Dogs)
However, we have noted a lack of non-shedding dogs being
offered and have had many families asking for our assistance.

level in school. He is completely verbal and has an amazing
sense of humour- he is good at pointing out ironic parts of
our society!
He has some gross motor deficiencies which are being
treated with Equine Therapy. His fine motor skills are
exceptional and he excels in creative art work and plays
guitar.

child for early intervention. He had a lot of social support

Dalen competed in a Western
competition against 'typical' kids his
age and did amazing!!!
He entered four shows and took
three first and one second place.
One of the first place ribbons was
won in the trail obstacle course!!!
He won over all high score!!!
